I have scanned some pages from the scrap books held by Angela and thought it might be of some interest to the members. These will be replaced in time with other images as there is lots of social history here. To see the full image please click on it.

In April 1952 Mrs Gibbons gave a talk to Wool W.I. on ‘Making of Banners’. A sub-committee was formed, chaired by Miss Peet, to make our own banner. The original idea came from Mrs Butler and Mrs Carroll and the banner was designed by Mr J Bolis, a local art master. It depicted the River Frome flowing under our famous Elizabethan Wool bridge, with its swans and nearby oak tree. Made of sky-blue lines for background, and for applique work, Mrs Carroll dyed white linen in shades of green, yellow, grey and brown.
The banner took 3 years to complete and the workers were commended by Mrs L Hyde, President of Wool W.I. It was finished in July 1955 in time for display at Wool W.I.’s 21st birthday in November 1955.
Unfortunately wear and tear, mildew and mould saw the demise of this banner in the 1980's - we now have a lovely new banner.
Some minutes from the first half of 1959. The picture of the ladies round the plinth is taken at Bulbarrow Hill on July 7th 1959 - Mystery Evening Tour the others are from a meeting in July 1959.
